The British Museum, the Tyne & Wear Museums and the Wallace Collection are among 17 museums and galleries to benefit from a new funding settlement over three years. As part of the Comprehensive Spending Review announced in October, capital allocations to the museums and galleries sponsored by the DCMS will rise by 147% to over £191.4m, with grants ranging from £275,000 for Sir John Soane’s Museum to a massive £62.75m for the Tate.
Venues outside London being funded include the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester and the National Museums Liverpool. £2m a year goes to the DCMS/Wolfson Museum and Galleries Improvement Fund, available to help museums and galleries improve the quality of displays, public spaces, environmental controls and access for disabled visitors.
