Artists will be fighting for a stronger voice in discussions with music and technology companies, trade organisations and the Government, following the creation of a new organisation to protect their rights. The Featured Artists’ Coalition, which boasts 60 signatories to its founding charter, will campaign for the protection of performers’ and musicians’ rights and call for changes to the law. Established artists such as Billy Bragg have signed up, alongside newer bands such as Futurehead. The organisation aims to ensure that artists retain ultimate ownership of their music, that all agreements should be fairly negotiated and that rights holders “must always explain how any agreement may affect how their work is exploited”.
