Disabled boy on a plastic mat, painting

Theatre Resource, one of the largest disabled-led arts organisations in the UK, has begun building work to develop its current arts centre into a National Centre for Arts Access and Inclusion. It is the only disabled-led organisation to own and operate its own arts education centre. This £6.2m project aims to develop Theatre Resource’s work in disability arts and social inclusion and to provide a base for artists seeking ongoing professional development, training and support. The work will update an Edwardian school building to include performance space, exhibition facilities, accessible teaching spaces and a 25-bedroom residential centre. Fiona Bryant from the East of England Development Agency, which provided a large part of the funding for the development, hoped that it would “increase the opportunities for disabled people to gain experience and training in arts and help them into employment”.
