Professor CHRISTOPHER SMITH has been reappointed as Executive Chair of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) for a further three years.

Announcing the extension of his tenure, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) confirmed he will continue in the role until August 2026.

Smith, who became Chair of AHRC in 2020, is a classics professor at the University of St Andrews.

UKRI’s Chief Executive OTTOLINE LEYSER said his reappointment came at "a crucial time for the research and innovation community".

Commenting on his reappointment, he said: "I am proud to continue with the work that I, and colleagues across AHRC, have been doing to sustain a vibrant arts and humanities community which is motivated to address the challenge of complexity and engender open constructive debate, in our own subjects, across science and across communities."
