The Derby Playhouse, which is currently in administration, has avoided liquidation following a legal claim by Artistic Director Stephen Edwards, challenging the level of Lottery grant repayments demanded by Arts Council England (ACE). Edwards said “if I had not taken this action then ACE would have forced a 60 year-old theatre company into liquidation.” ACE, which has a legal duty to reclaim Lottery funding which is not used for its intended purpose, will not set aside its claim. “In the event of the company going into receivership or liquidation, we will pursue it,” a spokesperson told AP.
