£2.25m of the Government's £1.57bn culture rescue package will be used to save grassroots music venues from insolvency.

The announcement from DCMS on Monday was welcomed by the Music Venue Trust, which said the sector faced "a wave of permanent closures" without this help.

About 150 venues are expected to receive grants of up to £80,000 in the coming weeks. Further details on how to apply are forthcoming.

The first tranche of funding amounts to 1.43% of the total package.
