Director-General DOMINIC TWEDDLE will step down from his role at the National Museum of Royal Navy (NMRN) at the end of November.

The museum's Executive Director of Museum Operations, MATTHEW SHELDON, will step up to fill the position on an interim basis as Tweddle departs to complete "personal projects".

Tweddle is a senior leader in cultural tourism with a background in organisational restructuring and visitor attraction consultancy.

He joined the organisation in 2009 as the inaugural Director-General. In the role, he brought together four smaller museums to establish the NMRN Group, namely Portsmouth's Royal Naval Museum, Royal Naval Submarine Museum in Gosport, Yeovil-based Fleet Air Arm Museum and the Royal Marines Museum in Eastney.

The museum said its chairs, trustees and staff “wish Tweddle well for the future”.
