(L-R): Kathryn Rees, James Southall and Mary King

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) has announced three new appointments.

Following the retirement of CARYL THOMAS, KATHRYN REES becomes Head of Harp. Rees specialises in harp technique and has been at the College for the past fourteen years.

Rees says she is delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Harp Department at RWCMD: “After forging such a close relationship with the department over many years, it's particularly exciting to be able to inspire and nurture the next generation of leading harpists.”

Following the departure of ANGELA LIVINGSTONE as Head of Opera and Vocal Performance and JOHN FISCHER as Artistic Director of the David Seligman Opera School, the College has appointed JAMES SOUTHALL as Interim Music Director for the David Seligman Opera School and MARY KING as Interim Head of Vocal Studies.

Southall has been a coach at RWCMD since 2013 and has conducted with leading opera companies including Welsh National Opera.

King, an experienced mezzo soprano, is a performer, teacher, coach, broadcaster and writer and has worked with leading conductors and various orchestras across the world.
