ALISON THORNE is the new Chair of National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales).

She takes over from JANE McCLOSKEY, who stepped down after five years in the role earlier this year.

Thorne has had a corporate global career in retail, holding executive board roles at Mothercare, George and Otto UK and executive leadership roles at Kingfisher and Storehouse, specialising in Operations, Buying, Merchandising and Sourcing.

She now has her own people development company called atconnect and is the Wales lead for Women on Boards.

Her current non-executive roles include governor of Cardiff Metropolitan University, member of the Sport Wales board, independent panel member for Public Appointments for Welsh Government, and she was formerly Chair of Chwarae Teg.

Thorne joins NDCWales as it embarks on its 2022/23 season of events called NOW | NAWR, consisting of new commissions, collaborations and UK-wide and international tours.

She says her focus in the role will be “to enable dance as a force for positive change”.

“Coming from a dancing family and passionate about celebrating Wales locally and on the world stage, I am delighted to join National Dance Company Wales,” she added.
