KAREN MACKINNON is to step down as Director and Curator at Artes Mundi to become Curator of Swansea’s Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in April. Since taking on the post in 2013, she has overseen three cycles of the Artes Mundi Prize and Exhibition as well as the expansion of the programme to include partner organisations Tate Plus, Chapter Arts Centre, Ffotogallery’s Turner House, alongside core partner National Museum Cardiff.
NATHALIE BOOBIS joined contemporary art festival Deptford X last month from SPACE, London, where she worked as Assistant Exhibitions Curator and Artist Commissions Manager. She also runs an independent curatorial practice and manages junior fellowships with Goldsmiths MFA Curating and Goldsmiths new Centre for Contemporary Art.
Former BBC Arts Correspondent, ROSIE MILLARD OBE has been appointed as Chair of Firstsite’s Board of Trustees. She is the current Chair of BBC Children in Need and served as the Chair of Hull City of Culture 2017, for which she was awarded her OBE.
New members have been added to the Board of Trustees at Kids in Museums. ANNE BRISBIN, a Director in Capital Markets at PwC, RACHEL KUHN, Senior Consultant with BOP Consulting, and VICTORIA PINNINGTON, Director of Communications and Income Generation at Horniman Museum and Gardens, will start their new roles this week.
The former Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Chairman of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, LUKE SYSON, has taken on the role of Director and Marlay Curator of the Fitzwilliam Museum. He has previously held positions at the National Gallery in London, the British Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
ARIKE OKE will become Managing Director of Black Cultural Archives next month. She has extensive experience in the heritage and cultural sector and is a standing board member of the National Archives’ programme Archives Unlocked, a BAFTA Heritage Board member, and chaired Hull’s first Black History Month committee.
DAVID EYRE has been appointed as Gaelic Arts Officer at Creative Scotland, and KIRSTY MACDONALD has joined the organisation as Traditional Arts Officer. Both posts will work to identify opportunities to develop Gaelic and Traditional arts provision across all aspects of Creative Scotland’s work.
Three independent directors are joining the Board at Dance Consortium: ROSIE KAY, Artistic Director at Rosie Kay Dance Company; SEBASTIAN CHESWRIGHT CATER, Marketing Communications Consultant; and ANDREW HURST, Chief Executive of One Dance UK.
After 10 years with Four Culture, CHRIS BAKER has been promoted to Associate Director. He has previously directed campaigns for Sky Arts; BBC Your Paintings; Leeuwarden-Friesland European Capital of Culture 2018 in The Netherlands and Ruhrtriennale, Germany; and he sits on the board of Threshold Studios, an arts producer and educator in the East Midlands.
