MATT GRIFFITHS is to depart Youth Music in December after 13 years as chief executive.

Under his leadership, the charity expanded into Wales and Scotland, launched programmes supporting young people to progress their careers in music, and created the annual Youth Music Awards.

“It has been the honour of my life to lead Youth Music and champion equal access to music for young people facing barriers,” said Griffiths, who, prior to his stint as chief executive, spent time working at Dartington Hall Trust as well as being a freelance percussionist and founding director of Plymouth Music Zone.

“Youth Music represents everything I stand for personally and professionally. Stepping away has not been an easy decision, but after 13 incredible years, I know the charity is in excellent hands with a brilliant team, board and culture, to continue this vital mission.”

Co-chairs CHARLOTTE EDGEWORTH and ISAAC BORQUAYE said Griffithstenure had been “nothing short of transformative”, adding: “His passion for inclusion has inspired everyone who works with Youth Music and left a legacy that will shape the sector for years to come”.
