Potter, teacher and philosopher
Carter is a longtime potter and teacher within the arts. He also spent three years in philosophy graduate school before turning to the more physically engaged world of the arts. Thinking about the arts is one value he inherited from doing philosophy. Somewhere along the way he found that if philosophy could use a bit more art in how it appreciates the world, the arts could use some better thinking in how the field itself is presented to us.
