Somerset House has announced the appointment of HARRY MATOVU and ALAN LEIBOWITZ to its board earlier this year.

A leading commercial barrister, Matovu is a governing bencher of the Inner Temple and a member of the Bank of England’s Enforcement Decision Making Committee.

Leibowitz is chair of The Landmark Trust and is a non-executive director of property investment and development company Dorrington PLC. He has served as a council member of the Royal College of Art and is a trustee of Wigmore Hall.

They joined Somerset House in February 2025, six months after the appointment of fellow board member HELEN PROTHEROE, who is vice president of global partnerships at the Allan Institute in Seattle.

Leibowitz called joining the board “an exciting offer”, adding that he looked forward to supporting the venue’s “forward-thinking approach, which brilliantly balances its heritage with modern creativity”.

Matovu said it was “inspiring” to work with “a diverse range of creatives and witness the power of their creativity”.

“It is a privilege to be able to contribute to Somerset House’s continued role as a leader in shaping the future of artistic enterprise and innovation,” he added.
