Royal Northern College of Music alumna joins ‘dedicated’ composition faculty
The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) has appointed its alumna, LAURA BOWLER, as deputy head of composition.
Bowler, who has professional credits with organisations including London Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, and Royal Ballet and Opera, will work alongside head of composition Dr LARRY GOVES.
Goves has led RNCM’s School of Composition since May 2023.
Bowler, meanwhile, has been commissioned by ensembles, orchestras, and festivals across the world, ranging from Lovemusic in France and Ensemble Offspring in Australia to Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
The musician, who has most recently held the position of PRiSM artist in residence at the college, said she would “always be incredibly grateful” for her time as an RNCM undergraduate, studying within a “dedicated faculty”.
“Taking on this new role will enable me, alongside the rest of the composition
faculty, to continue to challenge and support student composers to take creative risks, to build collaborative partnerships, and to always joyfully question what it means to be a composer today,” she said.
