Northern Stage appointee shares commitment to culture ‘for the people of the North East’
Newcastle theatre company Northern Stage is to welcome TOM HURLEY as head of producing and programming from January.
Joining from Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, Hurley has also held previous roles at Curve Leicester and Queens Theatre Hornchurch.
NATALIE IBU, Northern Stage’s artistic director, said she and Hurley were “united” by a commitment to make “pieces of culture, not just theatre, for the people of the North East”.
“Tom brings a dynamic and enterprising approach to programming, with an exciting track record for securing unique experiences for the audiences he serves.
“This – together with his experience supporting creative partnerships across a variety of scales, his skill as a producer and his passion for contemporary performance – makes him a thrilling colleague and collaborator,” she said.
“He shares my enthusiasm that theatre can be a force for positive change in the world – telling stories that celebrate difference, develop inclusion, and strengthen communities,” Ibu continued.
Hurley said he “couldn’t be more pleased” to be joining the team at Northern Stage.
“The arts sector holds so much power to bring communities together and I can’t wait to get stuck in,” he said.
