Meteorologist and former BBC weather forecaster joins National Lottery Heritage Fund board

Dr HEATHER REID has been named by Prime Minister KIER STARMER as a trustee of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Heritage Memorial Fund boards, commencing three-year terms for both organisations today (24 November).

Reid, who will chair the heritage fund’s Scotland committee has a background in meteorology, climate, natural heritage and science engagement, and spent her early career as a weather forecaster within the UK Met Office and BBC Scotland. 

More recently, she has held non-executive roles within the environment sector and is currently chair of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority and a board member at NatureScot and the Water Industry Commission for Scotland. 

A recipient of an OBE for services to physics in 2006, Reid is also involved in science education through advisory roles and is deputy chair of the Dynamic Earth Science Centre.

She has held posts including chair of the Institute of Physics in Scotland, trustee at Glasgow Science Centre and has been a leading contributor within Scotland’s education sector on the science and the impacts of climate change.
