London Youth Choirs (LYC) has appointed CEO of Network Rail, Sir ANDREW HAINES, to its board of trustees.

Haines has worked for Network Rail for seven years and will retire from the role in October 2025.

Haines said he was honoured to be appointed to the organisation, which operates 10 choirs and free school programmes aimed at addressing low access to music education, describing LYC’s work with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds as “truly inspiring”.

He commented, “Growing up attending a comprehensive school in South Wales, my education was massively enhanced by access to high standards of choral music at school and county level that not everyone today benefits from.”

“That is why I am so passionate about the brilliant, inclusive approach and excellence that is at the heart of everything LYC does,” he said.

Chair of LYC Dame DEIRDRE HUTTON said she was “thrilled” with the appointment, adding that his “extensive leadership experience, love of music and passion for community initiatives will be invaluable” as LYC continues to expand its reach and impact.
