Liverpool museums gain former Tate leader as chair
The former executive director of Tate Liverpool is to spend at least four years chairing the board in charge of seven galleries and museums around Merseyside.
Secretary of State for Culture LISA NANDY has named ANDREA NIXON chair of National Museums Liverpool, an organisation that looks after institutions including the Walker Art Gallery, the International Slavery Museum, and heritage site Sudley House.
Nixon, a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts and the recipient of an MBE for her contributions to culture, is currently chair of the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres.
Set to resign from that role later this year, she has also gained trustee experience at bodies including Arts Council North and the Audience Agency.
Her career has ranged from advising the likes of the National Trust and the Arts Council Collection on cultural strategy, to playing a key role in the creation of both Tate Modern and Tate Britain during her time as Tate’s director of development, between 1998 and 2006.
