Heritage and arts charity celebrating 34th anniversary names interim leader
KATHRYN DIXON is to head up a secular heritage and civic charity committed to the protection and restoration of the Grade I and Grade II* listed Union Chapel in Islington.
Union Chapel Project (UCP) has announced Dixon, a trustee at the organisation since 2015, will lead as managing director on an interim basis.
The charity is working towards the appointment of a permanent postholder for the role sometime next year.
A live performance space that also works in community-based engagement, Union Chapel marks its 34th anniversary as a venue and charity this year.
Its appointment, Dixon, boasts 20 years’ experience in business, where she has held executive management roles, and built teams with a focus on fundraising, marketing and client relations.
She had an early career in the theatre and has “always maintained a love of music and live performance”, UCP representatives said.
“People love the Union Chapel for many reasons,” said Dixon, “and I am no exception.
“I look forward to working with our amazing team as we embark upon a new chapter in the life of this iconic, special and vital place; a place that feeds the soul in more ways than one.”
KEN BEECH, chair of UCP’s trustees, said: “I am delighted that Kathryn has agreed to take up this post.
“The board are keen to see our management team supported as we approach completion of the £3.2 million Sunday School Stories project, renovating our Sunday school hall so that we can expand our cultural and community programme in the revitalised space.
“Kathryn brings excellent business credentials, a deep understanding of our organisation, and personal experience of the performing arts.”
