New trustees for Birmingham Hippodrome
Birmingham Hippodrome has appointed four new trustees, who took up their roles at the beginning of this month.
Director of creative learning and engagement at the RSC, JACQUI O’HANLON leads the company’s work with schools, universities and young people. A former chair of the Cultural Learning Alliance, she was a commissioner for the Durham Commission in Creativity in Education and has an MBE for services to the arts.
Dr JUSTIN VARNEY-BENNETT is regional director of public health for the South West of England. His previous roles include director of public health for Birmingham City Council, national lead for adult health and well-being for Public Health England, and thinker in residence at the University of Sydney.
As office leader at the Birmingham office of law firm Fieldfisher, RANJIT DHINDSA leads on UK Employment, Pensions, Immigration and Compliance practice, including advising clients on fostering inclusive and resilient workplaces.
Dhindsa is also a special adviser to the Birmingham-based social enterprise Miss Macaroon – which reinvests profits into training for young people – and an ambassador for Women on Boards.
ROB VALENTINE is regional lead for the West Midlands at Bruntwood SciTech – which provides office, lab and scientific services to the science, tech and innovation sectors. He specialises in facilitating collaborative partnerships between the private sector, local authorities, research institutions and universities to create innovation districts and drive strategic growth.
Birmingham Hippodrome chair CATHERINE MALLYON said trustee roles “are essential in setting and supporting the strategic direction of the Hippodrome and delivering those ‘goosebump moments’ through our on and off stage performances and programmes”.
“We are excited about the wealth of new experience that Jacqui, Justin, Ranjit and Rob bring, combined with their collaborative and thoughtful approach to work,” she said, adding that “the whole team looks forward to working together with them over the coming years”.
