Bernie Grant Arts Centre enters ‘next chapter’ with chief executive appointment
North London’s Bernie Grant Arts Centre (BGAC) is to welcome “force of nature” BRIDGET BANTON as chief executive.
Ahead of the organisation’s 20th anniversary, Banton, who has held roles at major cultural players including Channel 4, Paramount, BBC, and Penguin Random House, will step in to lead the venue.
Her appointment follows a period of some uncertainty for BGAC, which confirmed earlier this year it would pursue “strategic transformation” as a result of financial difficulties.
Previous chief executive and artistic director, AZIEB-HANNAH POOL, stepped away from the organisation earlier this year, having served six years in the role.
GEOFFREY WILLIAMS, chair of trustees at the venue, said: “Bridget is a force of nature. Throughout the process, we felt she brought the energy and focus that BGAC needs to thrive as a modern and sustainable arts and community centre.
“As she takes ownership of steering this charity into its next chapter, I am excited to see the vision she brings and how the community rallies around her.”
“My background as a creative leader is in media, content and storytelling, but the common thread has always been purpose: serving and connecting with audiences,” Banton said.
“Over my career I’ve worked across sectors, geographies and platforms, forming partnerships that bring different communities and creative disciplines together. I hope to bring that experience to BGAC and build upon the legacy already in place.”
