ANNA BERENTZEN has been named the first Jerwood associate artist, at ThickSkin, as the Wigan theatre company lays the groundwork for an expanded artists programme.

A Manchester-based director and co-founder of Hawkseed Theatre, Berentzen’s experience spans venues including Royal Exchange Theatre, the RSC, and Factory International.

In her new role, Berentzen will work closely with artistic director NEIL BETTLES, supporting the company’s creative programme and exploring her own projects and creative practice.

Also among new appointees to the company are STEPH CONNELL as senior producer and LOUISE FAZACKERLEY, who is project manager for Wigan’s Place Partnership, supported by Arts Council England’s Place Partnership Fund.

IAIN CHRISTIE joins as head of marketing and audiences after more than 20 years at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre, while CATH CULLINANE takes up the post of technical and facilities manager.

“These new appointments represent a real step-change for ThickSkin,” said ThickSkin executive director LAURA MALLOWS.

“They bring new ideas, new perspectives, and a shared passion for bold, socially engaged theatre. Together, we’re building a company that reflects our roots in the North while reaching audiences nationwide.”
