Scala, Worcester’s new arts centre, has announced its five founding trustees.

Chief executive and artistic director of The Courtyard IAN ARCHER will chair the board, joined by former CEO of Birmingham Ormiston Academy GAYNOR CHESHIRE, West Midlands-based performance artist SIPHO ERIC NDLOVU, director of Doncaster theatre Cast, DEBORAH REES and ANNE BRERETON, who has had a career in local government.

Scala will open in 2026 and feature live performances, independent films, music, talks, and workshops in central Worcester.

Interim creative directors HANNAH PHILLIPS and KITTY ROSS said each of the new trustees brings “knowledge and expertise that will be invaluable as we continue to shape the vision for Scala and deliver the business plan”.

“It is a testament to the scale of the Scala project that we can attract such experienced talent,” added the leader of Worcester City Council, LYN DENHAM.
