Streeter to lead Stratford East
London’s Stratford East theatre has appointed HANNAH STREETER as its executive director and joint chief executive.
Streeter joins the theatre from Orange Tree Theatre, also in London, where she holds the same two positions.
She will begin at Stratford in July, shortly after the theatre’s new artistic director LISA SPIRLING takes up her post this spring. The venue said the two will work closely together “to shape the strategic leadership of the theatre”.
Streeter succeeds ELEANOR LANG, who was appointed chief executive of Shaftesbury Theatre in November.
Streeter has spent six years jointly leading Orange Tree Theatre, overseeing turnover growth from £1.7m to £3.4m and leading a £4m capital project. Previously, she was a senior producer at Paines Plough theatre, overseeing a range of new work across international, mid-scale and small-scale touring.
Spirling said she was “delighted” to welcome Streeter to Stratford East, saying her “passion and belief in the importance of theatre is palpable” and that the positive impact she has had on the organisations she has worked with “will be felt for generations to come”.
Streeter said: she was “overjoyed” to have been appointed to work alongside the “inspirational” Spirling. Describing Stratford East as the “beating heart of east London”, she said: “There has never been a more urgent need for theatre in a community, and I’m truly excited to join the team and meet the artists, participants, supporters, and audiences who make up this special building.”
The board of Stratford East said they were “thrilled” to welcome Streeter, whose “passion for theatre is infectious”.
“We were hugely impressed by her during interviews, her experience of successfully running a theatre, her commitment to new work and audience development and her entrepreneurial approach to partnerships and fundraising.
“The board looks forward to working with her and is confident that she and Lisa will make an inspiring and dynamic team,” they added. “We are excited to see them build on Stratford East’s existing legacy and take us to new heights both locally and nationally.”
