Professor of cultural and creative industries at the University of Southampton, DAN ASHTON, has been appointed to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) College of Experts.

Comprising 58 experts from across academia and industry, the College of Experts aims to support evidence-based policymaking.

Ashton’s current work includes a partnership with the Local Government Association on a project translating report recommendations into a digital resource.

In collaboration with the Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities, he is also involved in two ongoing projects: Neighbouring Data, which examines qualitative data for place-based decision-making, and Diverse Capacities, which explores creative freelancer mentoring and networks.

“This is a great opportunity to understand and shape how research can engage with government and contribute to the policy decision-making areas, including the cultural and creative industries, and civil society and youth, “ said Ashton.

“I look forward to creating links for colleagues between the DCMS and the University of Southampton through the newly formed Culture and Creativity Policy Network. The network gathers, amplifies and supports expertise in creative approaches to policymaking and cultural policy research and welcomes all colleagues.”
