Oxford School of Drama is to welcome former chief executive and artistic director of Derby Playhouse, KAREN HEBDEN, as executive director.

Hebden will lead the conservatoire alongside school principal EDWARD HICKS and succeeds LIZ WILSON, who has held the role since 2017.

Wilson and Hebden began a handover process in October last year.

A published playwright, director, and acting coach, Hebden has worked at institutions including the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and on regional and national stages in the UK.

She said: ““I’m delighted to be taking on the role of executive director at the Oxford School of Drama at such a creatively rich and challenging time for our sector.

“Drama training thrives on collaboration, curiosity and courage, and I’m excited to work alongside staff, students and partners to support the school’s next chapter.”

Expressing “delight” at Hebden’s appointment, Hicks added: “Her passion for actor training and the range of experience she brings with her make her an exceptional addition to our leadership team at this important moment in our development.”
