Vanessa Reed will be the first woman to be appointed chief executive of the society
New chief executive named at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society
VANESSA REED will become chief executive of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society at the start of June.
She will succeed outgoing chief executive MICHAEL EAKIN, who is retiring at the end of March after 16 years in the role.
Reed is a music executive with more than 16 years’ experience as a CEO of national music organisations in both the UK and the US.
Since 2019, she has been president and CEO of the New York-based New Music USA. She is also a former advisor to the Recording Academy’s New York Chapter and, before moving to New York, was CEO of PRS Foundation in London.
A former board member of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and University of Liverpool ambassador, Reed says she is thrilled to become the first woman to be appointed chief executive of the society, which comprises the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company.
“My goal is to ensure that we, as one of the world’s oldest music societies, continue to evolve and thrive as we embark on our next imaginative chapter,” Reed added.
“This includes serving more of the city region’s musicians and young people through the planned “Abbey Road of the North” studios and tapping into Liverpool’s international brand for the benefit of our orchestra.”
