Musical theatre charity names new chair
Mercury Musical Developments (MMD) has appointed MATTHEW EAMES as its new chair of the board, succeeding interim-chair SEAN GRAY.
Currently head of theatres (contemporary and commissioning) at Lowry in Salford, Eames began his career as a performer and director. He moved to arts management in 2012 when he joined Lowry, initially as development executive, individual giving.
While at Lowry, he launched the venue’s REWRITES initiative, which supports emerging musical theatre creators. He is also an associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
Eames said he was delighted to join the organisation “at what is an incredibly exciting time for those writing and making new musical theatre in the UK” and was looking forward to advocating for a sector “that contributes so much to our cultural and economic success”.
NATALIA SCORER, executive director of MMD, added, “We have long admired Matt’s brilliant work at Lowry in developing musicals and supporting artists, and his passion for championing new work fits perfectly with ours.”
