Jacksons Lane leader of nearly two decades leaves for new ventures
Haringey arts and culture centre Jacksons Lane is to say goodbye to its artistic director and chief executive of some 18 years.
ADRIAN BERRY will leave the venue, known for its specialism in contemporary circus, at the end of its 50th year in existence, saying the timing of his departure “feels right”.
Berry has not disclosed what is next for his career, but said he was excited for “new discoveries and creativity”.
In his time at Jacksons Lane, Berry oversaw a £4.8 million redevelopment of the Grade II-listed building, which was completed in 2022.
Recruitment for his successor to join executive director and co-chief executive HANNAH COX, will begin soon.
Former chair of the board, ADRIAN PORTER, and current chair BETH CHAUDHARY, thanked Berry for his achievements including in expanding Jacksons Lane’s relationships with international contemporaries.
“For almost two decades Ade has played a pivotal role in elevating Jacksons Lane to be the UK’s most prolific circus performing arts venue,” they commented.
“Under his stewardship, UK and international artists and companies have a supportive space in which to develop and perform their work. Jacksons Lane’s international reputation is exemplary, with particularly strong relationships forged with the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, Circusstad in Holland and Montréal Complètement Cirque in Quebec to name a few.”
The pair added: “We owe him huge thanks.”
Berry said: “It has been an honour and privilege to be the artistic director of Jacksons Lane over the last 18 years, and to develop our beloved venue into the UK’s leading venue for contemporary circus, as well as a home for hundreds of British and international artists.
“It feels right at the end of our 50th year to pass this amazing arts centre, and opportunity, onto a new generation. I am excited to see where Jacksons Lane goes next, as well as my own journey into new discoveries and creativity.”
