Hampstead Theatre has announced that its associate director ALICE HAMILTON will take on the role of head of artistic development.

Working alongside producer and chief executive of Hampstead Theatre, GREG RIPLEY-DUGGAN, Hamilton’s new role will support artistic planning and programming while continuing to develop new work and emerging talent.

Hamilton has been the north London theatre’s associate director since 2023. Previously, she was co-artistic director of theatre touring company Up in Arms and has led development workshops and readings for the Almeida, Royal Court, Soho and National Theatre Studio.

She will continue to direct alongside her new role, including the forthcoming world premiere of David Pearson’s Firewing.

Hamilton said she was “thrilled” to take up the new post, adding that the theatre had “such a rich history”.

“I’m greatly looking forward to working with Greg and the rest of the team to support, nurture and collaborate with incredible writers and artists to deliver an exciting and ambitious programme,” she said.

Ripley-Duggan said he was “delighted” Alice was joining, saying, “Her expertise and passion for new writing has been invaluable over the last three years”.

Stage and screen actor DAVID MORRISSEY has also been appointed to Hampstead Theatre’s board as a trustee.

Morrissey’s screen career includes The Walking Dead, Sherwood and Red Riding and has appeared onstage in theatres such as the National Theatre, the RSC and the Donmar Warehouse.

“Hampstead Theatre has long been a vital home for original theatre and I’m honoured to be joining the board as a trustee,” he said.

“I’m very much looking forward to supporting the theatre’s commitment to writers and artists, and to contributing to its future success.”
