WILL GOMPERTZ will become The Barbican Centre's Artistic Director as part of a company restructure.

Currently joint Interim Managing Director with SANDEEP DWESAR, the new role will be Gompertz's third since joining as Director of Arts and Learning earlier this year.

Gompertz's move comes as The Barbican searches for a Chief Executive to lead the venue. Once recruited, the Managing Director role will not longer exist.

Earlier this year, the centre came under fire for its allegedly "inherently racist" management, accounts of which Gompertz has said carry weight. The centre has since pledged to mandate anti-racism training and introduce diversity targets to address the accusations.

Board Chair TOM SLEIGH says the chosen Chief Executive must bring new ideas, inspired leadership and willingness to learn and listen.

"They will build on decades of achievement and help deliver success in a changing world.

"This new CEO will make sure the organisation fully reflects the many communities that are part of the City of London and the Barbican Centre."
