Cambridge Arts Theatre has appointed NIGEL HUGILL chair of the Theatre Management Trust, succeeding IAN MATHER, who is stepping down after 15 years.
Hugilll is CEO of Master Developer and Urban&Civic as well as chair of the Centre for Cities, former chair of the Royal Shakespeare Company and a board member of the London School of Economics.
Joining him on the board are new trustees former Cambridge University vice chancellor and chair of Diamond Light Source Ltd Sir LESZEK BORYSIEWICZ; artistic director of Sheffield Theatres ELIZABETH NEWMAN; producer and former executive director at Donmar Warehouse KATE PAKENHAM; chair of Go Live Theatre Projects CHARLES PRIDEAUX; CEO at Abbey People NICKY SHEPARD; MD of SandStone Global Productions DIXI STEWART and former executive vice president at AstraZeneca Sir MENE PANGALOS.
Former chief of the secret intelligence service MI6 Sir RICHARD DEARLOVE has also been appointed as the new chair of the theatre’s Property Management Trust.
Hugill, who joins the venue following its receipt of a £16m gift from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, which has enabled the first phase of a major redevelopment project, said: “I am delighted to join Cambridge Arts Theatre at such a pivotal time.
“Works on the transformation are now well underway, and the benefits of that investment will become marvellously obvious on reopening later this year.
“We are more determined than ever to keep faith with the founding vision of John Maynard Keynes that the theatre should be integral to the vibrant cultural landscape of an internationally reputed city. The platform is so well laid. We build from here.”
