Former ABRSM Chief Executive MICHAEL 'MICK' ELLIOTT is the interim Chief Executive of the Arts Council of Wales (ACW).

Previously Chief Executive of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Royal Scottish National Orchestras and Associate Cultural Director of Liverpool Culture Company, Elliott has been a key figure in the cultural sector of the West Midlands.

He will be in post for six months, with the possibility of extension.

"My focus as interim Chief Executive will be on assisting and advising the arts council and its excellent team in the delivery of planned commitments, in adapting to new and immediate challenges, and in preparing for the arrival of a permanent Chief Executive," he said.

ACW is planning to overhaul its portfolio and leadership to diversify its work over the next three years.

PHIL GEORGE, Chair of the Arts Council of Wales said Elliott has important experience of working in devolved administrations.

"He has been an arts leader in major cities and urban areas but cares about reaching all communities through the arts.

"Along with his wide experience, he brings a strong admiration for the cultural and social agenda we are committed to in Wales. He will make a difference."
