Three new schemes have been created for young people looking to get their foot in the door in Scotland’s creative industries. A programme for unemployed graduates will offer 80 people aged 24 and under the chance of paid work in charities and small businesses in the creative industries. The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and Creative Scotland back the scheme, which will offer 13-week placements for those with relevant qualifications to join participating companies, who receive £3,000 towards interns’ costs. Meanwhile, in a separate scheme created in partnership with Young Scot, Creative & Cultural Skills Scotland and Creative Skillset will create 23 year-long, paid Modern Apprenticeships with arts organisations aimed at young people aged 16 to 20. They will trains towards a qualification while working, and the companies who employ them will each be given £8,000.  A third scheme will support those who are keen to start businesses within the creative industries. The Prince’s Trust Business Scotland programme will provide up to 50 young people over the next three years with the help they need to get their businesses off the ground – including access to finance, training and business mentoring support.
