Subathra Subramaniam
Artistic director and joint CEO at Akademi
Subathra Subramaniam is artistic director and joint CEO of South Asian dance company Akademi.
She is a choreographer and educator known for work that brings dance, culture and science together. Trained in the classical dance form Bharata Natyam, Subathra spent twenty years as artistic director at South Asian dance companies Angika and Sandhana Dance before joining Akademi.
Her most recent works include Plastic Drastic Fantastic – a dance theatre work for children and their families exploring our complex relationship with plastics and Pravaas – a promenade performance inspired by the stories of climate migration in the Sundarbans in India and Bangladesh.
