As she prepares for the opening of a rock musical in central London, producer Hannah Elsy shares a week in her busy working life. There are emails to fundraise, emails to hire people, emails sending and receiving new music and libretto, emails to feedback. Today I had an email session in the new Above the Arts club in the West End – and listened to showtunes to help me power through. TuesdayCycling around London in this summer heat is challenging and very sweaty. But it is the fastest way for me to zip from the theatre to ensure that the posters look perfect, then to the rehearsal room to drop off props, and finally back to the computer to continue fundraising and driving the show forward. Multitasking and getting some exercise too. WednesdayToday the cast and creative team I employed gathered together to read through the script of ‘The Quentin Dentin Show’ for the upcoming production at the Tristan Bates Theatre. My job at the read-through is to ensure that the whole team are on the same page about what the show is, and what it needs to achieve – to create a cohesive production. (Photo by Lidia Crisafulli.) ThursdayThe Quentin Dentin Show cast and writer/musical director Henry Carpenter got to work today learning one of the big numbers from the show. Rehearsal photos like these are fantastic for documenting behind the scenes, and can be used on social media to help market the show. (From left: Henry Carpenter, Lottie-Daisy Francis, Freya Tilly and Luke Lane.) FridayI produce and host ‘The Lowdown’, a scratch night for new musical theatre at Rich Mix in Shoreditch. Rich Mix is also a key supporter of The Quentin Dentin Show. The scratch night is an informal and fun event for performing, sharing and feeding back on various works of new musical theatre in development. I enjoy watching shows at an early stage of development, and talking to the writers and performers about how their shows can progress. (Photo by Lidia Crisafulli.)
