MO KOREDE has been appointed deputy artistic director at Sheffield-based Utopia Theatre company.

A director, dramaturg, writer and cultural producer, Korede has staged productions at venues including Theatre Peckham, Theatro Technis, and Lyric Hammersmith and led workshops for youth companies at the Almeida and Hackney Showroom.

In his new role at the Arts Council England National Portfolio organisation, Korede will work closely with CEO and artistic director MOJISOLA KAREEM, supporting creative development, artist engagement, and strategic planning, whilst also contributing to upcoming productions, youth and community programmes, and international partnerships.

“Mo joins us at an exciting moment in our journey as we expand our artistic programme, invest in new talent, and deepen our local and international impact,” said Kareem.

“His passion for storytelling, combined with his collaborative spirit and deep cultural insight, make him the ideal partner as we shape the future of Utopia Theatre together.”

Korede added: “Utopia’s bold style of storytelling and commitment to centring African and diasporic narratives have long inspired me, and I’ve deeply admired the company’s vision under Mojisola’s leadership.

“This role marks a major step in my career- not just as a move into senior leadership, but as an opportunity to champion African stories on a bigger stage. Utopia’s blend of artistic excellence and community-driven practice aligns perfectly with my belief in theatre as a force for empowerment and transformation.”
