Streetwise Opera has announced the appointment of five new board members.

Among the opera company’s new trustees are NIGEL PANTLING, who has been a strategic advisor to company chief executives and a director in the corporate finance divisions of two investment banks, and NICOLA BAKER, who has held senior leadership positions in financial services, risk and strategic projects.

BBC Symphony director BILL CHANDLER, who has held senior leadership roles at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, is also part of the new cohort, as is arts administrator TOM PHILPOTT, currently director of artistic planning and partnerships at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Also joining the board is MARTIN WARE, a former Streetwise Opera performer with experience as a musician in the Armed Forces and as a watersports manager in Manchester.

Streetwise Opera uses music and the arts to empower individuals who have experienced homelessness through workshops and theatrical productions.

Chair of the board, LINDEN IFE, said she was “really excited” to welcome the new trustees, and that it was “especially thrilling” to have a former performer join the board, calling it “a powerful tribute to Streetwise participants and to the work of the organisation”.
