Scottish development agency creates role to advocate for contemporary craft
Craft Scotland’s newest recruit will champion the place of “contemporary craft”, in a freshly-created position as a creative director.
Curator Dr STACEY HUNTER, who recently directed Dundee Design Festival 2024, is to “shape and deliver high profile, ambitious public events,” and support “makers, curators and other craft professionals” as she joins the national development agency.
Her appointment is part of a three-year plan to demonstrate craft and craft making’s role in society and value to economic growth.
Beginning early next month, Hunter is to work closely with Craft Scotland director IRENE KERNAN, who said she was “delighted to share the good news of this appointment”.
“Stacey’s dynamic and open hearted approach to working with craft and design talent whilst developing partnerships in government, business and the fellow charities continues to demonstrate the potential for developing new audiences and supporting makers,” she said.
Hunter said: “It’s a privilege to join Craft Scotland at this pivotal point for contemporary craft.
“This role will help us to capitalise on the cultural and economic potential that the Scottish craft community holds. I’m enthusiastically looking forward to working closely with makers, partners and the team to showcase the innovation, sustainability and deeply held commitment to exceptional making embodied in contemporary craft throughout Scotland.”
