Contemporary art space The Showroom has appointed GABRIELA SALGADO as its new director.

Born in Argentina, Salgado has had a 30-year career in the arts focused on the Global South’s artistic scene, developing projects in Latin America, Africa, Oceania and Southeast Asia.

She has served as Artistic Director of Te Tuhi Contemporary Art in Aotearoa, New Zealand, curator of public programmes at Tate Modern, curator of the Latin American Art Collection at Essex University, and director of the Fundacio Llorens Artigas in Spain.

As an independent curator and consultant, she has worked on exhibitions around the world and directed Transatlantic Connections, a long-term programme of collaborations between African and Latin America artists.

Salgado said she is excited to contribute to The Showroom’s “remarkable history”.

“Its experimental and inclusive vocation particularly attracts me. I envisage a programme that will echo the challenges of our times, offer valuable opportunities for artists and audiences, and extend The Showroom’s reputation,” she said.
