CHARLOTTE SUTTON has been appointed Head of Casting at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

Sutton is currently an Artistic Associate of the Young Vic and will take up her new post at the RSC in November.

Working in theatrical casting since 2010, Sutton has credits across the commercial and subsidised sectors, including Fairview in the West End, Guys and Dolls at The Bridge and The Light Princess at the National Theatre.

She was previously Casting Associate at Chichester Festival Theatre from 2017 to 2023, where she worked on several productions directed by the RSC’s newly appointed co-Artistic Director, Daniel Evans.

Sutton said she is “delighted to be joining the RSC at such a pivotal moment for the organisation.

“Growing up in nearby Leicestershire, we made regular school trips to see plays in Stratford-upon-Avon, so the RSC formed a key part of my formative theatregoing experience and has remained so.

“In tandem with the team at the company, we will strive for casting that is bold, ambitious, inclusive, and exciting. I look forward to working with Daniel and Tamara to build on the RSC’s long tradition of excellence in this thrilling new chapter.”

Commenting on Sutton’s appointment, co-Artistic Directors Tamara Harvey and Daniel Evans said they were “over the moon” she would be joining the company.

They added, “She has worked with so many of our most innovative directors, has a keen eye for emerging talent, and cares deeply about inclusion and fostering exceptional artists. We can’t wait to get started."
