NAT EDWARDS is joining The Royal Armouries as Director General and Master of the Armouries.

Edwards is currently Chief Executive Officer of Thackray Museum of Medicine in Leeds, where he has overseen a £4m refurbishment.

He has over 30 years of experience in the museums and heritage sector having previously worked for the Science Museum Group, National Library of Scotland, National Trust for Scotland and Glasgow Museums.

JOHN PROCTER, Royal Armouries' Chair of the Board of Trustees, said the recruitment panel were impressed “with the breadth of his experience, ranging from extensive capital funding projects, business initiatives, large-scale exhibitions and community and educational projects".

Commenting on his appointment, Edwards said he would make it his mission to welcome new audiences to the Armouries "not simply as spectators to history but as active participants in its making”.

He will join the Royal Armouries, which has sites in Leeds, HM Tower of London and Fort Nelson in Hampshire, in the autumn.
