SORCHA CAREY has been named as contemporary art centre Collective’s new director.

She will take over from outgoing director KATE GRAY in February 2022.

Director of Edinburgh Art Festival since 2011, Carey previously worked as Senior Adviser: Arts and Creative Industries for British Council Scotland and on three editions of the Liverpool Biennial.

She is currently Chair of Festivals Edinburgh, chairs the festivals’ Environmental Sustainability Group and is a trustee of Cample Line in Dumfriesshire.

“I am extremely excited to contribute to the latest phase in [Collective’s] journey, as they continue to develop their home on Calton Hill as a contemporary observatory for the city, where together artists and audiences can shape new ways of thinking and seeing,” Carey said.
