Paul Crewes, incoming Chief Executive, York Theatre Royal. A black and white image captures Crewes from the shoulders up. He is angled slightly to the side, smiling while not making eye contact with the camera. He is a white middle-aged man with curly hair, a trimmed moustache and beard, and is wearing a shirt.

PAUL CREWES will take the helm at York Theatre Royal as Chief Executive in October.

With 15 years’ experience in theatre and the arts sector, Crewes has worked in both the UK and USA. He was Artistic Director of The Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Angeles until 2021 and is also a former Executive Producer and CEO of Kneehigh.

He has occupied various other roles within prominent UK organisations, such as Associate Producer at the Lowry, Producer at Leeds Playhouse and the Director of Technical Training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Crewes said York Theatre Royal has “done great work over the years, both on stage and around the city”.

“We will continue to build on that work, supporting great artists and practitioners as well as attracting and growing new audiences. I look forward to getting started in October.”

“Paul has a huge breadth and depth of knowledge and experience, and a passion for the positive role theatre can play in community life,” Chair of York Citizens’ Theatre Trust ANN GREEN CBE commented.

“Building on all the fantastic work the team have created in recent years, we are all excited to be embarking on a new, fresh and confident chapter in the life of York Theatre Royal together.”
