KITTY ANDERSON is stepping down as director of LUX Scotland after six years to lead Glasgow Sculpture Studios (GSS).

Anderson starts her new role in November, taking over from MHAIRI SAWYER, who has been director at the arts venue since 2016.

Previously curator at the Common Guild, associate director of the Modern Institute, and associate curator of Frieze Projects, Anderson is a regular visiting lecturer at Glasgow School of Art and has delivered talks and presentations at galleries and museums around the UK.

During her time at the non-profit agency supporting Scottish artists’ working with moving images, Anderson initiated several national and international projects, and in 2024, following the departure of LUX’s founding director of 22 years, BENJAMIN COOK, she headed up both the organisation’s London and Glasgow teams as part of a leadership transition.

LUX director ALI ROCHE praised Anderson’s “exceptional leadership”, fostering “a spirit of creativity, collaboration, and care”, adding that securing multi-year funding (MYF) through Creative Scotland earlier this year is “one of many legacies she leaves behind”.

Anderson said it was a “privilege” to take the reins for GSS’s “next chapter” as the organisation recently celebrated receiving a MYF commitment and uplift from Creative Scotland.

She added, “I’m sad to leave my amazing colleagues [at LUX] but incredibly proud of all the work we’ve done and the programme we’ve developed together.

“I look forward to seeing [it] develop and the organisation flourish over the coming years.”
