SAM MULLINS OBE, CEO and Director of London Transport Museum, is stepping down following 28 years in post.

Key accomplishments during Mullins' tenure include setting up the UK's first publicy accessible museum store at Acton Depot in 1999, and overseeing the museum's £22m redevelopment project in 2007.

He also established the museum as an education and heritage charity in 2008.

Following his departure, Mullins will continue to work as a historian, writer and presenter, and share his cultural sector leadership experience through mentorship and consultancy. He is also President of the International Association of Transport Museums (IATM) and Deputy Chair of SS Great Britain.

“I have been extraordinarily fortunate to work with so many creative, dedicated and inspiring colleagues at our museum,” Mullins said.

“For a historian like me, being associated with Transport for London and seeing history being made every day is a huge privilege.”

“Sam’s service has been of immeasurable value to London Transport Museum. As a leader he is open, honest, and always values driven. Through his tenure, from the first day to the last, he has delivered not through blockbuster budgets but with brilliant and relevant ideas,” added MARCUS ARTHUR, Chair of the Enterprise Board.

Mullins will stay in post until the appointment of his successor.
