The Handel House Trust has announced that Viscountess PENELOPE COBHAM will become its chair this September.

Cobham will succeed SIMON WEIL, who is retiring after nine years as chair and more than 25 years’ involvement with the trust, which looks after the London homes of G.F. Handel and Jimi Hendrix and opens to the public as the Handel Hendrix House.

Cobham is chair of The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and deputy chair of the UK-St Helena Trust.

She previously chaired VisitEngland and worked as a special advisor on heritage and tourism to the Culture Secretary.

Handel Hendrix House director SIMON DANIELS said Cobham will bring “a wealth of experience in business, tourism and museums”.

Cobham said she was “excited and honoured” to become chair of “a gem of a museum”, adding that it is “a fascinating and important part of our musical heritage and London life”.
