Former BBC commissioner joins Arts Council Wales
CHRISTINA MACAULAY has been named a new member of the Arts Council of Wales (ACW), following an open competition that ran earlier this year.
Moving from Scotland to Cardiff back in 1993 to establish arts series The Slate for BBC Wales, Macaulay went on to helm a variety of culture and music programmes, including Cardiff Singer of the World, and for more than 10 years was commissioning editor at the broadcaster specialising in factual programmes.
A freelance executive producer since leaving the BBC earlier this year, Macaulay sits on the boards of Tŷ Cerdd and Arts Active, and as an amateur folk musician, helps to run Clera, promoting traditional music from Wales.
In 2025, she received the Geraint Stanley Jones award from the Welsh Music Guild for her contribution to broadcasting Welsh music.
“I am delighted that Christina Macaulay is joining ACW,” said ACW chair MAGGIE RUSSELL. “Both her extensive professional experience and personal passion and commitment to the arts in Wales over many years will be a huge asset to both council colleagues and ACW staff.”
Culture Minister, JACK SARGEANT, added that Macaulay’s thirty years of “experience, knowledge and expertise” in arts broadcasting will help the council as it seeks to meet “the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead in the arts sector”.
