The Chief Executive and Chair of Bristol Beacon are both stepping down.

Current Chief Executive LOUISE MITCHELL will depart in July 2024 after 12 years in post.

Mitchell has been at the helm of the historic concert venue since Bristol City Council established Bristol Music Trust to run it in 2011.

With over four decades in the arts, Mitchell has experience at London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Barbican Centre and Edinburgh International Festival.

Before moving to Bristol, she worked as director of Glasgow’s Concert Halls for 13 years before becoming Director of Glasgow UNESCO City of Music.

Mitchell leaves after overseeing Bristol Beacon's £132m refurbishment following its reopening on November 30.

Recruitment for a new Chief Executive will be advertised imminently.

Chair SIMON CHAPMAN will also conclude his tenure, succeeded by broadcaster, writer and historian JONATHAN DIMBLEBY.

Joining Dimbleby as Vice-Chairs are Director of The Centre for Mentoring & Coaching SANDRA MEADOWS and SONIA MILLS, who has a background in the NHS, including as CEO of North Bristol NHS Trust.

Mitchell commented: “We’ve been faced with some incredible hurdles and challenges along the way, but we have also grown an amazing organisation.

“I’m incredibly thankful to the board and in particular [Chapman] for his unfailing support and calm, level-headed guidance over the past few years."

Chapman added: "The once-in-a-generation transformation has been more challenging than anyone could have anticipated at the beginning but has resulted in a world-class concert venue for the city, and Louise’s determination and vision have been crucial in ensuring its successful delivery.

“Sadly, my role as chair has come to an end too, but it’s been a journey that I will never forget, and I’m proud to be part of such a forward-looking and brilliant organisation."

Dimbleby said: “I am fortunate to inherit the role at a point where - thanks in large measure to the outstanding leadership of Simon and Louise - the Beacon can now become a great cultural hub in the heart of this great city."
