TOM FETHERSTONHAUGH is Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's (BSO) new Assistant Conductor for the 2022-2023 season.

He was selected in a vote made by the orchestra’s musicians against nine other people to undertake the bursary-supported training position, designed to provide performance opportunities and mentoring with a view to launching a professional career.

He succeeds MARTA GARDOLINSKA, who was appointed as Music Director of Opéra national de Lorraine last year.

Fetherstonhaugh trained with Roland Melia and Sian Edward at the Royal Academy of Music, where he graduated with Distinction in 202, and is the founder of Fantasia Orchestra.

As Assistant Conductor, he is scheduled to work with inclusive ensembles BSO Resound and RNS Moves to present a newely commissioned work by Kate Whitley next spring.

He said the role provides “an exciting opportunity to work with, and learn from, this outstanding orchestra across their season”.
